As if we couldn't love her any more: Zendaya's upcoming role in Space Jam: A New Legacy is bound to be one for the books. That's right. While she may be reprising a role we've seen before, you can bet she'll be doing so looking very differently...
In only a few weeks, Space Jam's long-awaited reboot is set to grace our screens. Which also means we'll be watching Zendaya star as the film's famous Lola Bunny character. Only she'll actually be doing things differently this time around. Not only will she be as no nonsense as ever, but Z's iconic role will also have her ditching Lola's signature look.
In case you forgot, the original 1996 flick saw Lola Bunny with noticeable curvaceous features - something viewers might call hypersexualized. But make no mistake: the upcoming remake will have Lola looking much more, well, appropriate.
Not only has the character's curves been modified, but Lola's wardrobe has also done a total 180. And with good reason. “This is a kids’ movie, why is she in a crop top? It just felt unnecessary,” as director Malcolm D. Lee assured. Preach. But that's not the only thing his team has decided to change.
"We reworked a lot of things, not only her look," Lee continued. From ensuring her shorts were of appropriate length to not objectifying her female character, Lola Bunny is officially back and better than ever. "For us, it was, let’s ground her athletic prowess, her leadership skills, and make her as full a character as the others."
Safe to say, we couldn't agree more. As for when we'll get to tag along on the latest adventure for ourselves? Luckily, the upcoming flick is headed our way in only a matter of weeks. Space Jam: A New Legacy will be available in both theaters and HBO Max starting July 16. Until then?
Make sure that popcorn is ready, and don't forget to stay tuned for all the latest updates.
