What can't she do? Taylor Swift is stepping into her film director era, and we are loving this for her. Searchlight Pictures has formally announced that the Anti-Hero singer will be making her directorial debut in an upcoming film. The studio has kept the details pretty tight-lipped during the early stages, so really, we'll just take what we can get!
This is huge for all the Swifties! Seeing our girl go from singer and songwriter to feature film director during her career is huge. However, we aren't surprised! The Grammy award winner is used to being both in front and behind the camera. Swift has previously directed several of her own music videos over her nearly two-decade-long career, including All Too Well: The Short Film, which went absolutely viral in 2021. Based on the critically acclaimed song, All Too Well from 2014, the romantic drama short film starring Dylan O'Brien and Sadie Sink was both written and directed by Swift. The video chronicled the problematic relationship, and well, it captured audiences worldwide. So much so that the director took home multiple 2022 MTV VMA's and is currently in competition for a 2023 Grammy for Best Music Video.
Following its premiere at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival in June, the now-director shared her journey working on All Too Well: The Short Film. "I think I gave myself permission to completely make that jump into making a narrative short film because this is not a music video; we approached everything differently," she said. "You know, in shooting on 35 millimeter and all the decisions that were made to create these characters and dive into this world." Well, she absolutely slayed, and the official video has 80 million views on YouTube.

As far as her feature film directorial debut, Searchlight has shared a press release letting the people know the film will be based on an original script written by Swift herself. Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said about Swift in the press release," Taylor is a once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller," and that "It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey." We can only imagine the romantic drama that's going to come out of Taylor Swift's original script, and we cannot wait. Stay tuned.
