Remember when Shia LeBeouf got caught stealing a Gameboy? Or how about the time Matthew McConaughey was brought in after a college party? While they've since turned their lives around, these stars' realities once looked very differently…

Alec Baldwin

When tragedy struck the movie set of Rust in 2021, and the film's cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot, everyone wanted answers. With Alec Baldwin believed to be the man behind the weapon, it was largely speculated whether charges would be held against him for this allegedly mistaken act.

Cut to February 2023, and the Santa Fe County, New Mexico, district attorney's office has announced that the actor and film producer, Alec Baldwin, will be criminally charged with involuntary manslaughter. Although court proceedings have yet to begin, Baldwin's lawyers have emphasized his innocence. Stay tuned with this one.

Shakira

Those tax reports don't lie! Or do they? Shakira may be a superstar pop singer, but according to the Spanish authorities, she hates tax day as much as the rest of us. After years of fighting off claims, the Spanish government has maintained they have enough evidence to prove the Hips Don't Lie singer is lying.

According to the claim, the singer defrauded the Spanish government of $14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014, when she is believed to have lived in the country without paying taxes. Shakira has denied any guilt and maintains that her residency was never long enough to become a tax-paying citizen. A trial date has not been set.

The main incident behind these charges is believed to have taken place in May 2021, which saw Thugger driving at speeds of 120 miles an hour on the interstate with no seatbelt. The big trial finally began in January 2023 and has yet to conclude in a verdict. For now, at least.

The once beacon of hope for Silicon Valley, Elizabeth Holmes, suffered a tremendous downfall when allegations began to circulate that her billion-dollar med-tech company was entirely fraudulent. Theranos, which promised to conduct hundreds of tests with just a drop of blood, was ordered to shut down operations in 2019.

A$AP Rocky's life has always been a little rocky when it comes to staying above the law. Ezra Miller

Ezra Miller may have played The Flash, but even superheroes can apparently have run-ins with the law. After a trip to Vermont led to him being accused of stealing "several bottles of alcohol" from an empty home, the actor was charged with felony burglary.

This was not the first time Ezra had been involved with law enforcement, with years of various disorderly conduct charges on their rap sheet. Miller pleaded not guilty in October 2022, only to later plead guilty to the lesser crime of trespassing and have the burglary charges dropped.

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard

While Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's most recent domestic abuse trial may have been the most newsworthy, both parties were not unfamiliar with taking the stand. In 1989 and 1994, the Pirates of the Caribbean star was arrested and charged with various hotel-based misdemeanors.

It's alleged that Heard was arrested in 2009, prior to the infamous domestic-abuse trial. At the time, it was believed that the actress was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence after hitting her partner Tasya van Ree. Although these charges were eventually dropped, Depp's legal team used this incident in the case against her.

Doc Antle

From Netflix star to suspected criminal, Tiger King star Doc Antle suffered a mighty fall when he was amongst a group of people charged with wildlife trafficking and money laundering. According to the allegations, Antle and his co-conspirators were illegally trafficking wildlife in direct violation of US law.

In addition, the team was accused of falsifying records for these animals, which included lemurs, cheetahs, and others. An additional indictment also alleged that Antle had laundered over $500,000, which he earned while illegally smuggling in immigrants. The trial has been postponed to June 2023.

Bruno Mars

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas - right? Well, not so sure about that one. In fact, allow our first famous face to remind us otherwise. Back in 2010, as Bruno Mars's solo single propped him front and center, he was hit with a massive wake-up call.

On September 19, in the bathroom of the Hard Rock casino, Peter Gene Hernandez (who we know as Bruno Mars) was arrested for possession of illegal substances. "I was young, man!" Mars joked of the exchange. Luckily, the charges were soon dropped, and he walked away with a valuable lesson: "It can all be taken away," he reflected.

Shia LeBeouf

Unfortunately for our next star, his run-ins with the law are just as extensive. But believe it or not, LeBeouf's time behind bars started at just 9 years-old. Yep. What happened? He stole a pair of Nike Cortez from a California shop and was held for 6 hours, as he revealed in his 2015 book Prison Ramen.

But just two years later, Shia was charged with stealing a Gameboy Pokémon from Kmart. Since then, he's been met with endless charges, from DUIs to bar fights to disorderly conduct. And while he's currently tangled in a legal dispute with his ex, FKA twigs, we hope to see only great things from the Disney star moving forward.

O.J. Simpson

A white Ford Bronco, a freeway lined with eager fans, many, many cop cars: June 17, 1994, went down in history as one of the most memorable car-chases ever. Perhaps that's because the man behind the wheel was none other than former NFL star, O.J. Simpson.

After being charged with the murder of his wife and her friend, Simpson hopped in a car and headed for the freeway as he went from football star to fugitive. But after a heated trial, O.J. was eventually found innocent (cue *the gloves*). (Though we should mention he was arrested years later for a robbery in a Vegas hotel room.)

Kid Rock

Back in 1995, as Kid Rock was sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow, things went downhill real quick. From that point until about 1997, the beloved rocker found himself in and out of jail for alcohol-related charges. But by 2005, it was actually his music that got him locked up.

Or should we say, lack thereof? After a DJ refused to play the singer's requested music one fateful night, Kid Rock decked him in the face. He was charged with assault, something he'd face again in 2007 after a scuffle outside a Waffle House. But based on his smile in the (above) mug shot that followed? We'd say he was just fine…

Robert Downey Jr.

Sure, he may play a successful, suave billionaire on our screens. But back in 1996, the Iron Man star's reality wasn't quite as glamorous. Unfortunately, the actor found himself in severe legal trouble after joyriding along Sunset Boulevard one fateful summer night.

Downey had been in possession of illegal substances, including a firearm. Only his troubles were just getting started - and he soon went on to serve almost a year at state prison. "It's not that difficult to overcome these seemingly ghastly problems... what's hard is to decide to do it," he reflected on turning his life around.

Justin Bieber

Is it too late now to say sorry? The global heartthrob has found himself in quite a lot of trouble over the years. "Not my finest hour. Not proud of where I was at in my life," the reinvented artist reflected on his younger years. From mischievous womanizer to married man, Bieber's done a total 180 since then.

Back in the day, the star was charged with several offenses - from DIU to drag racing to everything in between (including, of course, the time he egged his neighbor's house). But he wouldn't want it any other way: "My encouragement to you is to let your past be a reminder of how far God has brought you," Bieber reflected.

Lindsay Lohan

Most of us remember when she stepped out wearing the same outfit as Regina George. But unfortunately for the Mean Girls star, her time in Hollywood has called for lots more than just Kalteen bars and Jingle Bell Rocks. Back in '07, Lohan had her first taste of legal trouble after being charged with a DUI. Sadly, it wouldn't be her last.

From alleged jewelry theft to allegedly assaulting a fellow clubgoer, Lohan's been met with several charges since then. Thankfully, after completing rehab and community service, the actress became probation-free in 2015. Since then, she's seemed to have done a total 180, and we can't wait to see what the future brings...

Shailene Woodley

Unlike many of our other famous faces, Shailene Woodley's time in orange didn't involve any mysterious substances or circumstance. In fact, she'll be the first to remind us about her hours behind bars - as brief as they may have been. "You are a caged animal," she griped of the controversial exchange. What happened?

On a fateful day in October 2016, the actress was taken in for her part in protesting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Woodley was charged with criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot. And while she was eventually released later that same day, she'll never forget her time at North Dakota's Morton County Jail.

Hugh Grant

It was a typical Tuesday morning back in '95 when the name "Divine Brown" was morphed into a household name. Ring a bell? On June 27, as cops were patrolling around Sunset Boulevard at 2 a.m., they stumbled across a parked BMW. Little did they know, there was an international star behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, after cops busted Hugh Grant and escort Divine Brown for engaging in "an act of lewd conduct," it wasn't long before it found its way online. And while the charges were eventually dropped after a $1,000 fine, the explosive scandal will forever live on in Hollywood.

Aaron Carter

A whole lot has changed since we watched the blonde heartthrob first sing about wanting candy on our screens. In 2007, the I Want Candy pop star was pulled over in Texas after allegedly swerving all over the road. Unfortunately, what cops soon discovered was no laughing matter.

After being pulled over for speeding, the star was found in possession of illegal substances. Fast forward to 2017, and Carter was arrested, again, for suspicion of driving under the influence. "To my brother: I love u no matter what… I'm here and willing to help you get better," Nick Carter had shared at the time. Agreed.

Snooki

Unfortunately, Snooki's gym-tan-laundry time was cut short back in 2010 after partying, um, a little too hard over in Seaside Heights. Ring a bell? Perhaps that's because the Jersey Shore star herself isn't shy about rehashing her former wild times on our screen.

After having a wee bit too much to drink, the reality star was famously arrested for "acting in a disorderly matter." As Snooki put it, it was perhaps "the most dysfunctional & awesome period in my life." Safe to say, the now-married mama of 3 has come a long way since then. And we couldn't be prouder.

Chace Crawford

Here's a secret we will tell: Back in 2010, one of the Upper East Side's finest landed himself in a pretty sticky situation. As the story goes, Chace Crawford has been parked outside a Texas pub in his friend's Nissan when things took a sudden turn. What happened?

Police found the actor in possession of then-illegal marijuana and brought him down to the station. Luckily, the star managed to strike a plea deal which led to the charge being erased. But can we talk about that picture for a second? If there's anyone who can manage to look good in their mug shot, of course, it's Mr. Archibald.

Amanda Bynes

Amanda, please! From labeling fellow celebs as "ugly" (sorry, Drake) to altering her appearance, our next star's time in Hollywood has been anything but boring. But where did it all start? After making it big back in the '90s, the Nickelodeon actress went on to become a household name. That was, until she retired in 2010.

But while she may have said bye to the big screen, she hasn't gone anywhere. From hit-and-runs to DIUs (as seen above), Bynes' name has continued to dominate headlines. And she's got big plans moving forward. "She looks forward to completing fashion school and dipping her toe back into acting," her lawyer revealed back in 2016.

Drake Bell

Hug me, Brotha! Remember when Drake Bell's biggest concerns were keeping an eye out for another one of Megan's booby traps or scoring another girl's digits? Safe to say, the Nickelodeon star's time off-screen has since called for much bigger troubles.

In 2015, the Drake & Josh actor was charged with a DUI. And in 2020, an ex came forward about alleged abuse on his end. But fast forward to today, and Bell is currently tangled up in a whole new scandal: child endangerment charges, stemming from a 2017 incident at a club with a 15-year-old. Stay tuned as this saga continues...

Macaulay Culkin

Don't recognize the guy in that mug shot? That's okay. For most of us, we'll always remember Culkin as the wide-eyed blond-haired troublemaker who dominated our screens each and every holiday season. Safe to say, a whole lot has changed for the Home Alone star.

In 2014, the actor was arrested in Oklahoma City for possession of then-illegal marijuana and two controlled substances. But despite the road bumps along the way, he's actually pleased with the way things have panned out. "It's allowed me to become the person I am," Culkin reflected. "And I like me, so I wouldn't change a thing."

Don't remember The Weeknd's time behind bars? One quick listen to his 2020 hit, Faith should help fill in the missing pieces. "You hear sirens at the end of the song – that's me in the back of the cop car, that moment," as the artist eventually revealed.

Just 6 years ago, what the artist calls "the darkest time" of his life, the Starboy caught himself in hot water during a trip to Vegas. Tyson was met with several charges regarding sexual misconduct after a pageant contestant had come forward. But despite serving over 3 years in jail, as a result, he went on to face more scandal. From assault to DUI charges, we're glad to see that his spirits remained high (based on that shot, at least).

Tiger Woods

On November 27, 2009, Tiger Woods made headlines as footage of his demolished SUV found its way onto our feeds. Why had his wife smashed the car's windows with a golf club? Of course, it wasn't long before we found out her husband was intoxicated behind the wheel.

But despite facing a citation for the accident, the golfer soon went on to face much bigger woes. In 2017, he was found asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes. The cause? As documents reported, he was under the influence of sleeping pills, among other substances. Woods entered probation, and his DUI charges were eventually dropped.

Heather Locklear

With blonde locks and blue eyes, the charming starlet was once Hollywood's golden girl. Unfortunately, things took a sharp turn by the time 2008 came rolling around. From rehab to driving under the influence, the actress found herself in several run-ins with the law as her time on our screens suddenly came to a halt.

Fast forward to 2010, and the star was arrested for a hit-and-run before being charged for domestic violence a few years later. And while we'll have to wait and see how this one plays out, we wish Miss Locklear nothing but the best.

Paris Hilton

That's hot. While the thought of Paris Hilton sporting a cotton, orange jumpsuit might be hard to imagine, that's exactly what once happened. Unfortunately, after being pulled over back in 2006, the reality-star was met with serious allegations. And they soon led to time behind bars.

It all started in 2006 when Hilton was charged with a DUI thanks to "one margarita" on an empty stomach - as she put it. But fast forward to 2007, and the blonde beauty was sentenced to 45 days in jail for a probation violation. Thankfully, she was released early for good behavior and has been living her best life ever since.

Matthew McConaughey

Back in 1999, Matthew McConaughey was just another college grad looking to celebrate their football team's latest win. Safe to say, that's one celebration he'll never forget. 6 cop cars and 40 onlookers later, the actor was brought to the Austin Police Station after a neighbor's noise complaint escalated real quick. What happened? Apparently, it all started when Slim caught his then-wife Kim locking lips with a Mr. John Guerra outside a sports bar in Michigan. After striking Guerra several times with an unloaded weapon, Eminem's charges were eventually dropped - thanks to probation and a cool $100,000 payout.
