The actress sat down in an interview with InStyle to promote the latest products in her beauty line, Rare Beauty. In the interview, Gomez opened up about the concerns she's had with her appearance since she was just seven years old. Selena explained that being in the industry from such a young age opened her eyes to beauty standards that didn't seem to suit her. "That made me question my own beauty, which is a huge part of why I created Rare Beauty. I wanted quality products that I feel confident and comfortable wearing. But more importantly, I wanted to change the narrative and knockdown dated beauty norms," she shared. Gomez continuously advocates for mental health and self-acceptance through her beauty line and other projects.
The Thirteen Reasons Why producer is known among her fans never to shy away from being genuine and vulnerable. In the interview, Gomez revealed how social media made it even more difficult for her to embrace her appearance. "At one point, Instagram became my whole world, and it was really dangerous. In my early 20s, I felt like I wasn't pretty enough," she told the interviewer. Selena also added the overwhelming feeling led her to become determined to take back her power over the situation. "I wanted to be able to look in the mirror and feel confident to be who I am. Taking a break from social media was the best decision that I've ever made for my mental health," the star shared. Gomez added that, while she still gets occasional visits from her past feelings of self-doubt, she now has a "much better relationship with herself."
