| LAST UPDATE 08/23/2021
Kill em with kindness, that's what Selena's been doing. The Rare beauty recently sat down to talk about life in the public eye and all the struggles that come with it. Here's how she's turned all the negative attention into a learning lesson after all these years..
After endless years riddled with heartache and health battles, Gomez opened up in a recent interview about what's been going on behind closed doors. And from the sounds of it? It's been one heck of a journey. "My lupus, my kidney transplant, chemotherapy, having a mental illness, going through very public heartbreaks—these were all things that honestly should have taken me down," the actress confessed. Unfortunately, they almost did.

"Every time I went through something, I was like, 'What else? What else am I going to have to deal with?'" she explained of her seemingly endless struggles. But while things in Sel's life seemed anything but simple, there was one thing she did know – something that helped propel her forward.
"'You're going to help people,'" Gomez recalled of the words she constantly told herself – what truly kept her going after all this time. Despite battling anxiety and depression, among other things, the actress used her ability to help others to keep on pushing forward. Sure enough, fast forward to today, and she's changed more lives than her own.
As she proudly put it, "Everything that I’m attached to has a charity aspect." Whether it's her Rare Impact Fund or becoming involved with the When We All Vote organization during last elections, Gomez is officially a woman on the move. "I don’t need money... I need people who want to fight with me.”
Safe to say, the 29-year-old star has come a long way since her days on Disney. And we can't help but admire the strides she's already made over in Hollywood - though something tells us her journey is just getting started.
