Calling all OG Grey's Anatomy lovers! While Sandra Oh may have stopped appearing in the iconic medical drama back in 2014, her impact lives on, as she remains one of the most beloved characters thanks to her ten seasons on the ABC show. And while we loved seeing her on our screens every Thursday night (and during our annual binges, let's be honest), things weren't always so easy on the other side of the camera. And now, the actress is ready to talk about it.
Sandra Oh laid it all out on the table during her recent appearance in Variety's famous YouTube segment, Actors on Actors, where Oh chatted with Squid Game's Jung Ho-Yeon. The two women bonded over the overnight success they found in their roles and the pluses and minuses that came with the fame. And while Sandra's boom in Hollywood happened close to 20 years ago, she could still relate to what Jung was going through. "The stress is the same, or the confusion is the same... when people are in extremely amazing, privileged, heavy responsibility positions like this. Your personal health is, I think I realized, came first," the now 50-year-old actress reflected.
"Honestly, I got sick. I think my whole body was very, very sick," she continued. "Even though you keep on working, but it's just like, 'Oh, I can't sleep. Oh, my back hurts, I don't know what's wrong with my skin.'" And while it may have taken some time, Oh eventually gained a valuable lesson thanks to the experience. "I learned that I had to take care of my health first," she confessed. "But that's not only your body. That is your soul," she continued to explain. It's safe to say that Jung was soaking up all the wisdom, as Sandra remains a major icon that many younger actresses look up to.
