When we think about the tough parts of an artist's job, our mind normally thinks of long days on tour, late nights in the studio, or the pressure of music critics. But TikTok? If we're being honest, we never thought that a social media app could cause so many problems for a singer, but according to Halsey and others, it's turning into quite the nightmare. Here's the full scoop...
Halsey hit up TikTok to vent their heart out following some frustrating news from their record label. According to the singer, they had a new single they were itching to release, but the label wouldn't approve it unless they were able to "fake a viral moment" to gain interest in the track. "I deserve better than this TBH," the annoyed artist wrote in the video. And they weren't the only one sharing their grief online. FKA Twigs, Florence Welsh, Charli XCX, and more hopped on board, raising serious attention online. The posts gained some pretty anti-TikTok reactions from fans of the artists, with one person writing on Twitter, "This application is literally creating a generation of digital junkies addicted to novelties, to the point that many children and teenagers can no longer watch a whole movie, listen to a song that is longer than 3 minutes," @TullerMarcela vented.
But there was also another side to the story - some social media users noticed a pattern to the artists' TikTok rants and formed a theory of their own. By joining the train of artists complaining about their record labels, marketing-savvy people like Maddie Quinn felt like the whole thing had become a clout-chasing trend itself! But no matter what side you're on, it's safe to say that this recent round of music industry drama has garnered quite a lot of attention!
