Although it's been a few months since Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes called it quits, we weren't really given the deets about what brought their relationship to an end. But luckily for us, the 25-year-old singer recently opened up about the breakup during an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe. Here's what she shared.
Camila discussed her upcoming album, Familia, saying, “My priorities have fluctuated and my focus has changed throughout my life." Cabello, then 22, started dating Mendes in July 2019, shortly after the release of their single, Señorita. "We both started so young, too. It’s like we’re really learning how to be healthy adults," she continued. The Cinderella actress also opened up about one particular song, which dropped on March 4, 2022, and is set to appear on her upcoming album.
This is one of my favorite songs we’ve ever written. Your life doesn’t have to be perfect for you to allow yourself joy. Even through the heartache, and the confusion, and the messiness… we keep dancing. 💅🏼

As for Bam Bam, Cabello described her work as “trying to get across in the verse is just that things change and things take really unexpected turns.” She continued to say, “Because for me, I f****** love Shawn,” she added. “And I feel like there is literally nothing but love for him. And this song is mostly just about like, ‘Okay, how do I make a song that shows the cycles of love, and life, and gives people…’ Whatever it is that’s going on in your life, whether it is a breakup, or a divorce, or like you said, a friend breakup, or you’ve just gone through something that just is really s****y. Hopefully, this can make you be like, ‘It is that way now.'” Fans definitely have to thank her for that one, because who can't relate?!

The two music stars previously announced the end of their relationship via a joint statement that was posted on each of their Instagram accounts. “Hey guys we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever,” the statement read. They explained that they “started their relationship as best friends” and “will continue to be best friends” after parting ways. “We so appreciate your support from the beginning, and moving forward." Awww. We're glad there are no bad vibes between these two.
