Even if you hate the cold, there's one thing most of us can agree on: December's rush of holiday-themed movies is one of our favorite things about the year coming to an end. But this lap around the sun, the film we're most looking forward to, barely has anything to do with Christmas or Thanksgiving romances. Instead, it's a coming-of-age comedy that begins on the eve of Y2K. Here's everything you need to know about Mixtape, premiering December 3.
There's plenty of reason to be excited about the upcoming flick. First of all, we can expect some killer late '90s and early 2000s fashion, with inspo from the '80s, as well - you'll understand why soon, we promise. And if the fashion, crimped hair, and glitter-filled makeup weren't enough to get us on board the Mixtape fan club, then the cast more than makes up for it. Our small screens will be filled with young female faces once the film hits Netflix.

Gemma Brooke Allen stars as the movie's protagonist, 12-year-old Beverly Moody. Alongside the talented starlet will be two fresh faces: Audrey Hsieh and Olga Petsa. And to top it all off, the young women will be joined by the one and only Julie Bowen, the Modern Family icon. So what exactly should we expect? Lots of laughs and possibly a few tears. Here's why.
According to the movie's official synopsis, we'll be watching Beverly (Gemma Brooke Allen) as she "discovers a broken mixtape crafted by her teen parents who died in a car accident when she was a baby. Raised by her grandmother Gail (Julie Bowen), a former teen mom herself who finds it painful to speak about her late daughter, Beverly sees this mixtape as a chance to finally learn more about her parents."
The synopsis continues, "So she sets out on a journey to find all the songs on the tape. Along the way, she makes friends with her quirky neighbor, Ellen (Audrey Hsieh); intimidatingly tough, Nicky (Olga Petsa); and Anti (Nick Thune), an anti-everything record store owner who's the key to finding these tracks, and a renewed bond between Gail and Beverly."
