Gen-Z has been brutally honest about how they feel about some of Millenials' favorite things. Lets' just say anyone who grew up in the 90s probably wouldn't want to be seen wearing skinny jeans or a side part in front of anyone born after 2000 because the new-age IT girls have made it clear those things are out. And now, apparently, posing like a "teapot" has also got to go! Here are the best ways to pose for your Instagram photos, according to Gen-Z'ers.
The "teapot" pose, also known as the "S curve," is when we push our chest out, slightly arch our back out, and place our hand right on the hip. This stance gave the body a curvy yet slimming look that nearly every early 2000s celeb loved. From Hilary Duff and Paris Hilton to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, we can already envision A-listers on the red carpet, getting into the "teapot" pose as the paparazzi snapped their pics. But it wasn't just the stars who knew this trick - girls at bachelorette parties, prom, and sororities were also busy rocking the infamous posture. Urban Dictionary explained, "This pose is predominately used by females of the 'basic' variety on social media platforms such as Instagram or Facebook. It can be used singularly but is often utilized for group photos." Oh, the shade!
But, like with most things from 20 years ago, this pose has got to retire. Now, the Gen-Z'ers have been opting to go for more natural poses. TikTok creator Christine Buzan, who shares posing tips on her account, revealed to her followers a new posture, which she called "the teapot's cousin." Basically, instead of placing your hand on the hip, all you have to do is place your arms in front of your body - as if you were holding a small purse. The arching of the arms by your side will still give that "slimming, streamlining effect of the teapot, but it's less in your face," she explained. A.k.a., a more natural approach to the OG pose.
