The truth is, by the time a photoshoot picture reaches our Instagram feeds or the cover of a magazine, most of us don't have a clear idea about what went down behind the scenes on set. From touch-ups to photoshopping, the industry has dozens of secrets that they try to keep from us - but thanks to Norwegian model Karoline Bjørnelykke, the ins and outs of plus-size modeling are getting blown wide open.
The 25-year-old model has been open with her followers about her journey from a "high fashion" to a "plus-size" model in industry standards, and all that has shifted along the way. Overall the switch to plus-size modeling has come with a lot of positives for Karoline, who was able to embrace her body without the pressures of fitting into a size zero. But that doesn't mean that there haven't been issues along the way. And thankfully, she's chosen to share her insights on social media. Most importantly, the fact that she's considered a plus-size model because she's a size medium.
"The fact that I'm plus size in the modeling industry is beyond me," she captioned one of her many viral TikToks. But to many, that wasn't the most shocking fact of all. In a recent video, which has raked in over 600,000 views, Bjørnelykke revealed one troubling secret the modeling industry didn't want us to know.

While Karoline may not fit a size zero, she also doesn't fit into the size range for most plus-size brands. And rather than hire real models that fit those sizes, Karoline is tasked with bringing equipment to every set. "I have to bring something called padding, which basically is a fat suit," she revealed. "It's because they want the neck and the face to look really slim and sharp, which doesn't just create unrealistic standards, but impossible ones." While many in the comments were disturbed to know the truth, at least we can hope that Karoline's honesty can be a catalyst for change in the industry. Stay tuned for more trending TikToks you shouldn't miss out on!
