Each and every human was born differently. Look no further than Hollywood, where some of our favorite stars boast unusual features. From heterochromia to webbed feet, these stars are proud of their unique body parts...
Kate Bosworth’s Eyes
With luscious locks and near-perfect bone structure, it is easy to see why Kate Bosworth is considered one of the most beautiful actresses in the world. But as many of her on-screen romantic interests will surely attest to, Kate’s eyes possess a beauty of their own.
The Win a Date with Ted Hamilton! star was born with one blue eye and one hazel eye due to a genetic condition called heterochromia iridum. The unique feature has become so synonymous with the actress that the Lois Lane dolls modeled after her character in Superman Returns have two different colored eyes!
Kesha’s Tail
One of Kesha's first hits was We R Who We R, which served as an excellent reminder to embrace the elements that make us unique and be proud of them. The singer's tracks are known for making fans shake their tail feathers - but in Kesha's case, she once took that very literally.
“I had a tail,” she revealed to Heat Magazine. “It was a tiny tail — about a quarter of an inch.” Although rare, some babies are born with additional flesh at the end of their coccyx containing blood vessels, muscles, and nerves but no vertebrae. Because it’s not a part needed for survival, it is often removed as Kesha’s was.
Jonah Hill’s Arm
When Jonah Hill was 15-years-old, he and his friend drove an SUV, which unfortunately crashed. The incident left the 22 Jump Street star’s right arm badly injured to the point where doctors considered amputating the limb. While his arm was eventually saved, Jonah still has the scar to show for it.
Seventeen years later, the scar, which stretches past his elbow, is still serving a purpose. Seeing his parents sobbing in the hospital, the actor made a vow to himself. “I said to myself, ‘I’ll never let them down ever again. I’m going to be successful.’ So I look at this scar every day. That reminds me to work hard.”
Natalie Portman’s Mole
Society might make us think that flawless skin is the ultimate goal. Make-up products are sold on the promise of covering up - and if that doesn’t work, there’s always photo-shop. In fact, even Oscar winner Natalie Portman was once a victim of this mentality.
The Black Swan actress possesses a mole on her left that is one of her characteristic features. Although Natalie is now proud of the beauty mark, she was once insecure of the striking spot. “Finally, I had to say, ‘This is part of me.’” And what a gorgeous part it is.
Vince Vaughn’s Thumb
Before his beloved role in Wedding Crashers, Vince Vaughn was in a pretty serious car crash. The incident took place when the star was only 17 and left him with an injury that would remain with him for life. In pictures of the True Detective actor, it is easy to see that one thumb is not like the other.
The accident resulted in Vaughn losing the tip of his right thumb and having to give up his passion for water polo on doctor’s orders. Although it was devastating at the time, it gave the Illinois native the opportunity to invest more time in theater and pursue a career in acting. We’ll give a thumbs up to that.
Karolína Kurková’s Belly Button
In the mid-2000s, a series called Kyle XY told the story of a teenager who woke up in a forest and had no memory of how to interact with humans. The one defining factor about this guy? He had no belly button — something all babies are born with. Was he human? Was he an alien?
Some may have joked that Kurková’s lack of a belly button made her part of an extraterrestrial race. Actually, the Czech supermodel had an operation as an infant that was likely done to treat an umbilical hernia. Far from embarrassed, the 37-year-old has proudly strutted her midriff on endless runways. And we love to see it.
Matthew Perry’s Middle Finger
The chances of Matthew Perry giving someone the finger are low, but it has nothing to do with the Friends star’s aversion to the impolite gesture. Instead, a childhood accident left the Canadian with part of his middle digit missing on his right hand.
Nothing gets past fans of the hit series, though, who noticed something was off about Chandler's fingertip and wondered what had happened. Perry revealed that he had gotten it caught in a door at 3-years-old. Could that BE any more painful? We're glad he's made a full recovery since then!
Seal’s Scars
Seal has a sultry voice that is sleek enough to smooth over any surface. Yet, the British singer has lived most of his life with a series of scars on his cheeks and upper face. Unfortunately, they've resulted in several rumors and false assumptions about the father-of-four.
The scars are actually caused by an autoimmune disease called discoid lupus erythematosus. The condition typically results in scars and legions, but the Kiss from a Rose singer has taken it in his stride: “Something that had kind of been initially traumatizing turned out to be something that has made me instantly recognizable.”
Gigi Hadid’s Moles
In 2016, Gigi Hadid was named Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council. The 26-year-old has worked with top names and graced numerous runways throughout her career, yet even those as beautiful and successful as Gigi have been made to feel insecure about their bodies.
Despite having a gorgeous figure, the supermodel would often wear one-piece bathing suits to cover up. That’s because editors constantly photo-shopped her pictures to remove the remarkable moles on her body. These days, though, Gigi embraces all her features and shows them off with pride.
Padma Lakshmi’s Scar
It is said that every scar tells a story — a concept that Padma Lakshmi believes in. The Top Chef host has a noticeable scar that extends from her right bicep to her forearm and is a reminder of an incredibly frightening event in her youth; one that almost took her life.
At age 14, Padma was involved in a severe car accident that required her to have major surgery. The procedure left her with a signature 7-inch scar. Although she was self-conscious when younger, the Emmy winner now says she would refuse to get ride of her scar: “It’s what sets me apart and makes me, me.”
Megan Fox’s Thumbs
Just one look at the outfit that Megan Fox wore to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards can confirm that the Jennifer’s Body goddess has legs for days. But while her lower limbs may be long and lengthy, that trait does not extend to all of Megan’s features.
The Teen Choice Award winner has a condition called brachydactyly which has left her with clubbed thumbs. "They're so, like, short," the starlet joked to Jay Leno. Although harmless, it meant that Meg used a hand double in a Motorola phone advert. We're pretty sure that Machine Gun Kelly doesn't seem to mind, though.
Jane Seymour’s Eyes
Jane Seymour has been regarded amongst the most beautiful women in the world during her 53-year career in the public eye. The actress has posed for Playboy 3 times (including becoming the oldest woman to do so at age 67!), but it is the Wedding Crashers eyes that are something to behold.
Seymour is amongst a small percentage of the world who have a condition called heterochromia iridum. As a result, the Bond girl has a right eye that is brown and a left eye that's green. Although she's had to wear contact lenses for some roles, Jane prefers her natural coloring. "I don't look like me if my eyes are one color."
Ashton Kutcher’s Webbed Toes
Webbed feet affect approximately 2,000 to 2,500 births, and Ashton Kutcher was one of them. The star of That ‘70s Show has a rare genetic condition called syndactyly that results in two or more digits on a hand or foot being fully or partially fused together.
Ashton showed off his unusual toes during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show. During the show, he removed his shoes and socks for the host, who jokingly attempted to de-web them using mini scissors. “I have slightly webbed toes. When everything else is this good-looking, something has to give!” the actor quipped.
Cassandra Naud’s Birthmark
Several urban legends surround birthmarks. Whether or not they are true, Cassandra Naud is doing her best to celebrate the unique feature. The dancer-turned-actress, who played Cappuccino in Loudermilk, was born with a large, dark birthmark under her right eye called a nevus.
Even though doctors said it would be too dangerous to remove the birthmark as an infant, Cassandra couldn't imagine living without her signature trait. “I feel like it’s been such a positive thing in my life,” she revealed. “It helps me be more memorable, which is super important as a performer.”
Mekhi Alante Lucky’s Eyes
At times it feels like Mekhi Alante Lucky has the ability to look deeply into your soul. Many have had a tough time breaking eye contact with the 22-year-old whose genetic condition, heterochromia iridum, has left him with one brown eye and one that is piercing blue.
The North Carolina native rose to fame in a peculiar way. After being arrested on a series of felons, Lucky’s mugshot went viral, earning him the nickname “Prison Bae.” Since his release, the blue-eyed wonder has strutted catwalks and posed for fashion campaigns. Talk about “lucky.”
Slick Woods’ Tooth Gap
Ain’t nothing gonna keep Slick Woods from showing off her smile — especially nasty remarks about her tooth gap. Having been discovered by British model Ash Stymest while waiting at a bus stop in Los Angeles, Slick has since gone on to work with top designers in the industry.
Known for her high cheekbones and shaven hair, it is the 25-year-old’s infectious smile that makes her most recognizable. Born with diastema — a condition that causes a gap between the two front teeth — Woods never let it stop her from smiling and, in 2017, was named as one of the faces of Fenty Beauty.
Angelina Jolie’s Knees
Angelina Jolie has been dubbed one of the most beautiful women in the world, but even a human as gorgeous as she has features that one might regard as "flaws." (Not that we'd agree.) As for what we're referring to? The actress's knees, which have been described as knobbly.
The star of Those Who Wish Me Dead has a fairly thin frame, which is likely why her knees appear to be frail as they are. Having said that, the Academy Award winner knows how to use those knees in action like in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - and who can forget her famous leg pop at the 2012 Oscars?!
Joaquin Phoenix’s Scar
The Joker was infamous for his smarmy smile full of cynicism - and Joaquin Phoenix captured it fantastically. In real life, the Oscar-winning actor has a smile that is rather charming. In fact, it is quite unique, thanks to a small scar above his top lip.
While many had assumed that the mark was the result of a surgically corrected cleft lip, the Mary Magdalene star clarified that it is, indeed, just a scar that he was born with. “While pregnant with me, my mother felt a sharp pain one day, and I was born with a mark on my lip,” Phoenix claimed.
Moffy Gathorne Hardy's Eye
Moffy Gathorne Hardy’s name is unusual, but that isn’t the most distinct thing about the British model. Hardy is renowned for having an eye condition called strabismus. The result? Eyes that don’t quite line up when looking at an object, which, in Moffy’s case, is the camera.
The 25-year-old admits that she struggled with the attention her lazy eye garnered when she was younger but has since embraced it as a part of herself. "I think one can assimilate anything as a part of one's identity if necessary," says Hardy. "[The condition] is now a way into knowing me."
Mark Wahlberg’s 3rd Nipple
As a Hollywood heartthrob who has done his share of action flicks, Mark Wahlberg is no stranger to being seen with his shirt off. After all, The Fighter star used to be an underwear model for Calvin Klein. But if you can look past the bulging muscles, you may spot something else on Marky Mark’s torso…
The revelation that the Boston native has a third nipple was made during a breakfast show appearance alongside Daddy’s Home 2 co-star, Will Ferrell. “We never talked about that… I just assumed he had two of them,” joked Ferrell. According to Wahlberg, the additional bump is the size of an infant’s nipple.
Elizabeth Berkley’s Eyes
Having graced screens during the ‘90s on Saved by the Bell, Elizabeth Berkley has been introduced to a whole new generation in the revival of the teen series. And with it, so have the beauty’s eyes which are a unique set of orbs that will have you looking twice.
The former Dancing with the Stars contestant was born with partial heterochromia iridum. Unlike others with the genetic condition who have eyes that are two completely different colors, Berkley’s right eye is half green and half brown, while her left eye is entirely green.
Harry Styles’ Nipples
Here is a fact that all Directioners are likely to know: Harry Styles has an extra set of nipples. The condition is labeled as polythelia and is actually quite common. The little nubs are caused by nipple cells migrating to other parts of the body and can result in nipples on one’s chest, belly, or even armpit.
Harry’s additional pair is located a bit further down from his others and can be seen amidst the tattoos on his torso. The Watermelon Sugar singer has often joked about the supernumerary nipples, and even quipped that they were his best dating trait.
Darryl Hannah’s Finger
Being in the spotlight for 43 years means that Darry Hannah has done a fair bit of waving at the paparazzi. Although it is not always easy to spot, the Sense8 actress is missing part of a finger on her left hand, courtesy of a tragic accident that occurred when she was a little girl.
As Hannah explains, when she was 3-years-old, her left index finger got caught in the pulley of her grandparents’ mobility aid, resulting in it needing to be surgically removed. The environmental activist often wears a prosthetic to conceal the injury in films, but take a look next time she graces a red carpet.
Winnie Harlow’s Complexion
Winnie Harlow became known to the public during the 21st cycle of America’s Next Top Model after her beauty captivated host Tyra Banks on Instagram. Aside from her large eyes and long legs, it was Harlow’s unique complexion that catapulted her to stardom.
The Canadian was a toddler when she was diagnosed with a condition called vitiligo that left portions of her skin without pigmentation. The lack of melanin is visible on her face, arms, legs, and torso. Winnie has used her fame to be an advocate for vitiligo, in addition to modeling for Victoria’s Secret, Marc Jacobs, and MAC.
Tom Hardy’s Pinkie
Tom Hardy may look charming when waving to the crowd with his curled pinkie finger. But believe it or not, there is actually a different reason as to why the little digit on his right hand looks the way that it does. If you’re squeamish, hold on tight…
When he was younger, the Venom star managed to severe a tendon with a knife while in the kitchen. He did not get it tended to at the time, and after 3 operations, it resulted in a bent pinkie. Luckily, the injury has not impacted Hardy’s acting ability in any way, with the star regarded as one of the best of his generation.
Mila Kunis’s Eyes
Mila Kunis has been regarded as one of the world's sexiest women on more than one occasion. Her dark hair, light eyes, and raspy voice is well-documented, but many fans of the Bad Moms actress don't know the true story behind her unique eyes. Ring a bell?
“I was blind in one eye for many years, and nobody knew,” the actress revealed. The inability to see was the result of a condition called iritis, which leads to inflammation of the colored part of the eye. In 2010, the Ukrainian native underwent surgery to have it corrected.
Forest Whitaker’s Eyelid
In most of his movies, Forest Whitaker takes on roles in which he plays moody, contemplative characters. While the Academy Award winner’s acting is undoubtedly top-notch, Whitaker has a little genetic help when it comes to nailing that brooding look…
The Black Panther star's left eye is affected by a condition called ptosis, which is a fancy name for a drooping eyelid. "It's a genetic thing. My dad had it, and now I have it," Forest explained. The 60-year-old has considered having his eyelid corrected with surgery as it impairs his vision at times.
Sanaa Latham’s Thumbs
Sanaa Latham’s unique physical feature may not be that obvious when seeing her do her thing on screen. Yet, a glimpse of the Hit & Run actress waving to a crowd or a snap of her accepting an award will reveal that she has thumbs that are shorter than her hands would naturally call for.
Colloquially known as clubbed thumbs, Latham was born with a condition termed brachydactyly. Translated from Greek as “short finger,” those with the condition typically have thumbs that are two-thirds the length of ordinary thumbs and have a wider nail bed.
Jessica Cauffiel’s Eyes
With her blonde hair and green eyes, Jessica Cauffiel was well recognized for her time in Legally Blonde. But upon closer inspection, not everything was as it seemed when it came to the stunning set of peepers that the Hollywood actress possesses. Take a look below...
Like many other stars on this list, Cauffiel has hererochromia iridum. But unlike Kate Bosworth or Jane Seymour, the University of Michigan graduate is partially affected by the genetic condition as it is only her left eye that contains specks of brown amidst the green.
Denzel Washington’s Pinkie
There’s always been something magical about Denzel Washington, but not many associate that aspect with his finger. Yet, the two-time Academy Award winner will tell you straight up that he has a “magic finger” — why?The phalange is not exactly straight.
Denzel dislocated the pinkie on his right hand while playing football back in the day. According to the Roman J. Israel, Esq. star, the finger would jut out oddly if he opened his hand too fast. Washington has since had his pinkie fixed, claiming that it now has something akin to a gummy bear inside.
Tiny Fey’s Scar
Leave it to multiple Emmy Award winner Tina Fey to turn a fairly traumatic childhood incident into a comedy bit. The genius behind Mean Girls, 30 Rock, and Girls5eva has a scar that measures a few inches long and runs along the left side of her chin and cheek.
Fey revealed in her autobiography that the scar was caused during kindergarten when a stranger approached her in the alleyway behind her childhood home. “My scar was a miniature form of celebrity,” she wrote, joking that kids knew who she was because of it and that it always scored her extra candy.
Eva Mendes’ Mole
The remarkable mole on Eva Mendes’ left cheek adds to the Latino actress’s sultry appearance. So much so, that it has become one of her signature features. But while the rest of us might try to emulate the mark by adding our own via make-up, Eva didn’t always have it easy.
"In junior high, the other kids would say, 'You've got some chocolate on your face,' and I fell for it every time," the 2 Fast 2 Furious star shared. She had originally planned to have the beauty mark removed when she grew up, but says she is happy that she didn't. So are we!
Shawn Marion’s Pinkie
Sporting injuries seem to be a common theme when it comes to fingers bending in ways they shouldn’t be. Shawn Marion suffered injuries to his knees and hips during his 16-year long basketball career, but the damage to his pinkie definitely seems the most painful.
The former Dallas Mavericks player can't remember how he initially fractured his fifth proximal phalanx. "Just got it hit," Marion said. "It's facing 10 o'clock." Although the finger subsequently got hit many more times, The Matrix took it with humor, acknowledging that he wouldn't be a hand model.
Gerard Butler’s Ear
With piercing blue eyes to get lost in, we wouldn’t be surprised if one never noticed Gerard Butler’s ears. In fact, even the Scotsman himself was surprised by their appearance when he saw them clearly for the first time after shaving his head for his role in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life.
According to the PS. I Love You star, his right ear was mangled following surgery he had as a child to treat his tinnitus. Although the former lawyer is still hard of hearing in that ear, it was pushed back during surgery, giving his left ear the appearance of sticking out far more.
Selena Gomez’s Scar
The scar on Selena Gomez’s inner thigh serves as a reminder for the Lose You to Love Me singer of how lucky she is to be alive. When the starlet required a kidney transplant, her BFF Francia Raisa obliged. During the surgery, one of Selena’s arteries severed, forcing doctors to build a new artery using a vein from her leg.
“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar,” Selena confessed in an IG post of her in a bathing suit. “I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up. Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through...” Yas, Queen!
Ed Sheeran’s Scar
In ancient times, scars were admired as they were often a sign that one had done something courageous or overcame a traumatic event. And we can't help but wonder what event led to Ed Sheeran's signature mark. Any guess what it might have been? Prepare to be surprised.
While the Bad Habits singer joked that the gash was caused by Princess Beatrice yielding a sword incorrectly, the truth is far more boring (and embarrassing). Sheeran actually got the scar by injuring himself after having a bit too much to drink, as James Blunt revealed.
Andy Cohen’s Eye
Given his endless business ventures and TV appearances, one could hardly ever accuse Andy Cohen of being lazy. But the Watch What Happens Next host does, in fact, have a lazy eye. Andy’s right eye is a little droopier than his left, though some fans claim to have never noticed.
Unfortunately, the 53-year-old did experience some nasty comments earlier on in his career. Someone he worked for told him that he had a wandering eye which prompted a panicked call to his mom. Good ol’ Momma Cohen disputed the critique, and the television host has gone on to have a very successful career.
Kate Hudson’s Ears
Kate Hudson is proof that even the most beautiful people in the world have insecurities. She may have taught us how to lose a guy in 10 days, but one thing she seemingly hasn’t been able to lose is her ears — a point of insecurity since she was a young girl.
"I've always had ears that stick out," the Almost Famous actress claimed, revealing that it earned her the unflattering nickname of Dumbo. And as if that wasn't enough, her brother and fellow actor Oliver Hudson would tease her that her eyes were on the side of her head! We're pleased it went in one ear and out the other, ahem.
Henry Cavill’s Eyes
Fans of The Witcher video game and novel jumped for joy when it was announced that Henry Cavill would be taking on the titular role of Geralt of Rivia. The Welsh actor bulked up for the part, adopted an odd accent, and tried to make himself look as much like the beloved character as he could.
Geralt is described as having platinum white hair and yellow eyes, and Cavill obliged by donning a wig and contact lenses. In real life, though, the Superman star has some unusual eyes of his own. Henry is another star with heterochromia iridum, with his left eye having a patch of brown amidst the blue.
Kristen Bell’s Eyes
When it comes to stars who don’t take themselves too seriously, Kristen Bell is up there with the best of them. The star of The Good Place readily admits that her eyes are a little “wonky” (her words), as a result of the strabismus inherited from her mom that leaves her eyes not entirely lining up at times.
"When I'm filming, I've got to be real careful because oftentimes, I'll tell the director of photography, 'Please be careful, because she doesn't always come,'" the starlet joked of her right eye, which she claimed sometimes wanders to the corner of her socket.
Kylie Jenner’s Scar
Sometimes Kylie Jenner leaves us guessing (like who she's dating or whether she is or isn't pregnant… FYI: she is, and it's Travis Scott's!). But other times, she lets her fans in on intimate details, such as why she has a fairly large scar on the side of her left leg - something she has dubbed "a loyal friend."
The tale goes back to when the make-up mogul was 5-years-old and playing hide and seek with her older sister Kendall. She had decided to hide inside a tall gate, but when big sis couldn’t find her, Kylie was forced to climb up over a pole which went through her leg when she slipped. Ouch.
Tyra Banks’ Forehead
According to Tyra Banks, it is her forehead that made her a supermodel. The beauty has been gracing runways and magazine covers since she was 15-years-old. But despite her undeniable good looks, the host of America’s Next Top Model was reportedly considered an “ugly duckling” while growing up.
She claims it had something to do with her forehead, which Tyra says some people used to refer to as “a five-head, and maybe even a six or a seven.” Yet, it was that signature feature that made her stand out from the rest. “If I didn’t have a high forehead, I would’ve been too safe-looking and too commercial-looking.”
Karlie Kloss’s Height
Karlie Kloss has always stood head and shoulders above her peers — and it has nothing to do with her height. The former Victoria’s Secret model has been praised for her determination in getting things done, as well as her passion for educating girls when it comes to computer science and other STEM fields.
But where her height is concerned, Karlie clocks in at 6”2. While it makes her ideal for the catwalk, it hasn’t always been easy. “It used to be something that I really disliked about myself, being tall and lanky,” the 29-year-old said. “It turned out to be the greatest asset I have — how uniquely weird I am.”
Jason Momoa’s Scar
At 6”4, Jason Momoa is a force to be reckoned with. After all, not just anyone could take on the role of Aquaman or do justice to the Dothraki warlord, Khal Drogo. Yet, despite his imposing figure, someone still decided to start a fight with Momoa, which is how he got that famous scar on his left eyebrow.
One night back in 2008, the Game of Thrones star was at a bar in Hollywood when he got into an altercation. We know what you’re thinking — we wouldn’t want to get into a brawl with Jason Momoa either, but there ya go. During the fight, the actor was hit with a glass, leading to 140 stitches on his brow.
Sophia Hadjipanteli's Unibrow
If it worked for Frida Kahlo, why not Sophia Hadjipanteli? The Greek-Cypriot model has eyebrows that many would kill for, with not a stroke of microblading in sight. The 25-year-old has chosen not to conform to conventional beauty standards and wears brows exactly how she likes.
“I have always been really expressive with my style, and I always encourage people to do whatever makes them feel most confident,” Sophia says of her signature unibrow. “You should be allowed to do that without feeling scared or embarrassed.” Besides, who enjoys the pain of waxing and threading anyway?!
Max Scherzer's Eyes
Hand-eye coordination is a key element of Max Scherzer’s role as a professional baseball player. And although the star pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers may be wearing a cap that shields his peepers most of the time, the sportsman’s unique eyes are something to cheer about.
Scherzer was born with heterochromia iridum, meaning his right eye is blue, while his left eye is brown. In the athlete’s own words, he has always celebrated the condition. So when a bobblehead doll of Mad Max was created, the figurine accurately possessed two different colored eyes because representation matters.
Stephen Colbert’s Ear
We can't imagine not having Stephen Colbert on our screens every night. Charming celebrities and making audiences laugh seems to be a role that The Late Show host was born to do. But Colbert actually had other ideas for his future that he likely would have pursued were it not for his right ear.
When he was younger, Steven dreamt of becoming a marine biologist. But the comedian developed a tumor in his ear as a child. And in order for it to be safely removed, doctors were forced to remove his eardrum as well, leaving him deaf in his right ear and unable to dive underwater. While his loss, it’s definitely been our gain.
Anna Paquin’s Tooth Gap
Anna Paquin has been loved by audiences since she was a 9-year-old in The Piano. The role earned her the title of the second-youngest Oscar winner in history after she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11. And her talent has been on display ever since.
Something else that has always been on display is the True Blood actress’s smile with her signature gap between her two front teeth. Whereas some might pay thousands to have it corrected, Anna admits that she doesn’t care too much about her gap. “As an actress, you are more limited if you interfere with your looks.”
Busy Philipps' Moles
If there is one star who speaks her mind with confidence, it’s Busy Philipps. The Dawson’s Creek actress has been outspoken about social issues like abortion, gender pay gap, and LGBTQ+ rights. So it’s no surprise that she had something to say when people came after the moles on her face and neck.
“I once got a TV show, and apparently the network told the producers to have makeup COVER ALL MY MOLES,” the talk show host revealed on Instagram. Miss Philipps recalled how insulted she felt as her beauty spots are a part of her. “Without them, I think I’d look kind of plain and boring,” she quipped.
Lindsay Lohan’s Freckles
Those with red hair are naturally more inclined to develop freckles due to red hair alleles in the MC1R gene increasing the chance of forming sun spots. Case in point: Lindsay Lohan. Although she’s dyed her hair on more than one occasion, the Mean Girls star always returns to her fiery roots.
Over the years, there have been rumors that the former child star was considering having her signature freckles removed through bleaching or laser - both of which sound rather painful. Happily, that never happened. And although Lindsay’s freckles are less prominent than as a kid, they’re certainly still there.
Cara Delevigne
If there is someone who could be credited with reinvigorating the thick eyebrow trend, Cara Delevigne is your girl. The internet is filled with dozens of articles about how to get brows like the English model, but the 29-year-old admits that she wasn’t always a fan.
“My mum would always tell me they were my best feature. I was like, ‘They look like giant slugs on my face,’” Delevigne reflected. Evidently, mother knew best as Cara’s brows are part of a revolution. A tip from the Paper Towns actress? “Keep them as wild as possible.”
Miles Teller’s Scars
At the age of 20, Miles Teller went through an experience that completely changed his life. “My buddy lost control of my car going 80 mph. We flipped eight times. I got ejected out the window.” The terrifying encounter left the Whiplash star with more than a few scars on his face.
Despite still having pieces of gravel embedded in his skin (ouch!) doctors told the actor that removing them would cause even more scarring. Teller admits that he lost out on some roles because it wouldn’t make sense for the character to have scars. But the right roles did come around, resulting in Miles becoming a beloved star.
Steve Buscemi’s Teeth
Steve Buscemi is one of those actors who seemed to star in all the big films of his generation. Reservoir Dogs? Buscemi. Fargo? Yep, there, too. The Big Lebowski? You guessed it — Buscemi; not to mention television classics like The Sopranos and 30 Rock.
While his acting talent cannot be doubted, the New Yorker reckons his appearance may have a lil something to do with it too. "I've had dentists who have wanted to help me out," the actor said of his misaligned smile. "But I say, 'You know, I won't work again if you fix my teeth!'"
Bella Thorne’s Acne
Bella Thorne has never been one to hide her truth. The Disney star was famously brave in the face of her private photos being hacked. But she has also stood strong when discussing her acne-prone skin, which may not be up to conventional beauty standards, but is, in fact, very real and relatable.
After years of having to wear copious amounts of make-up on screen that further irritated her sensitive skin, the Shake It Up actress has learned tips to keep her face happy. “There’s something called over-washing your face, and when I had really bad acne, that was one of the things I stopped, and it actually helped my skin.”
Ashley Graham’s Stretch Marks
Looking for proof that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and definitely doesn’t fit a specific standard? Ashley Graham should be on your radar. As a plus-size model, the size-16 beauty has worked with top designers like Dolce and Gabbana and Michael Kors - all the while endorsing body positivity.
"I definitely think that my body has changed many peoples' lives. I've used my body as a tool to talk about taboo subjects, such as cellulite or being insecure about lower belly fat," said Graham. When she developed stretch marks after welcoming her son in 2020, the icon proudly wore them as a badge of honor.
Sarah Hyland’s Scars
For Sarah Hyland, her scars are marks of bravery. Not many fans of Modern Family may know that the star has undergone no less than 16 surgeries to treat the kidney dysplasia that she was diagnosed with as a child. This has included two kidney replacements after her body rejected the first.
Yet, the 30-year-old just keeps on carrying on. “I’ve never been afraid to show my scars,” she declared. “They are little tally marks of what you’ve been through as a human being.” Photos on Instagram show the actress wearing crop tops and bikinis, demonstrating how she won’t let her scars prevent her from living her best life.
Demi Lovato’s Cellulite
When growing up under the spotlight, there is an increasing pressure to look “perfect.” In response to that demand, Demi Lovato would edit pictures of themselves to achieve a standard of beauty that was deemed acceptable to society. But no more, because the Dancing with the Devil singer no longer cares what other people say.
Sharing an unedited photo of themselves in a bikini, Demi described it as their biggest fear before embracing their cellulite and calling it cellulit. "Here's me, unashamed, unafraid, and proud to own a body that has fought through so much," they wrote. Sorry not sorry.
Kim Kardashian’s Complexion
When it comes to eyebrows that are on fleek and make-up that is flawless, Kim Kardashian leads the pack. But despite always appearing well put-together, the reality star also deals with her share of worries. Kim was diagnosed with psoriasis in 2011 and has been very open about her battle with the condition.
The star’s psoriasis has caused dry, red patches on her legs, arms, face, and other areas of her body that have been left without pigment after flare-ups. But as proof that the mom-of-four won’t let the autoimmune disease get her down, she created a special foundation inspired by her psoriasis.
Mary J. Blige’s Scar
The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul has always been straight up in her lyrics. Having experienced a tough life with bouts of physical and substance abuse, Mary J. Blige used her hardships as inspiration to make some of the most honest music out there. And for that we are grateful.
The Family Affair star is known to have a prominent scar near her left eye, and although she has chosen not to reveal how she got it, the Grammy winner has embraced it. "If I don't accept the scar on my face, the lips that God gave me, the big giant feet… I got to love it so everybody else can love it. And I started loving it."
