JoJo Siwa Talks Ditching the Bow and Rocking a "More Mature" Style
| LAST UPDATE 06/27/2021
Just like Miley's farewell to her iconic top bun, JoJo Siwa has begun experimenting with hairstyles sans bow. And while the social media star's fame became synonymous with her favorite accessory, she was here to remind us that she's all about breaking out of the box.

For as long as JoJo's been on stage (and that's a while), she's been rocking her go-to look: A slicked-back high ponytail topped with a colorful bow. The style seemed like a perfect representation of the budding star's personality: bubbly, fun, and vibrant. And that partially fueled the shock that fans experienced when Siwa debuted her new look. In the following weeks, JoJo sat down with Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, to talk about what lead her to the decision. "I've worn a bow, obviously, for the last 18 years of my life," JoJo shared. It seemed as though Siwa's 18th birthday shifted something her. "I realized, 'you know, I kinda want to do my hair different today."
But was it as simple as that? Rebranding after 18 years was no small feat, and JoJo felt the pressure. "My mom asked me, 'Was it harder to come out to me, or to tell me you wanted to wear your hair different?" Siwa shared during her interview. And looking back, she recalled having a harder time with sharing the new style! But nerves aside, the reaction to the switch was overwhelmingly positive on Instagram. Fans took to the comment section to show some love. "Start of a new era maybe? I love it either way," one supporter wrote.
And the commenter was on to something. JoJo shared that she felt it was "the right time to do something different and to do something a little more mature." But it's not one or the other in her eyes. "The bow is still a part of my life," she continued. "They're who I am. But I just, you know, maybe won't wear it every day." Either way, JoJo has shown us that it's the person behind the style that counts.
As JoJo continues to break barriers on her rise to fame she's doing her part to spread a message of positivity and self-confidence along the way. Bow or not, she's here to shine.
