She may have started as a trending face on our "For You Page," but today, she's a force of nature in the music industry. And after her breakout success with Be Happy, our girl Dixie D'Amelio is back with her first album, a letter to me! And lucky for us, the talented singer gave some inside deets on the collection of songs.
It all went down in Dixie's recent interview with V Magazine. When speaking with journalist Madison San Miguel, the 20-year-old didn't hold back on sharing the intimate details of the music-making process, including song inspirations and insecurities. So let's dive in, shall we? For starters, D'Amelio shared what she wanted her first album to represent. "The best way I can describe it, a letter to me is about entering your 20s, reflecting on the past, and looking forward to the future," the TikTok star shared. From love and relationships to hardships and fun memories, the singer wanted the tracklist to embody everything she's been through over the past few years - the good, the bad, and the ugly! But that wasn't the only goal Dixie had for the album.
Since breaking into the music scene - and even entering the public eye - Dixie has been all about carving a name for herself that's true to her authentic energy, no matter what people may say. And so when it came to creating an album, she fought hard for her originality once again. "People were trying to put me in this teeny-bop box," she confessed. "I wanted to prove that I can be anything and everything I want to be as an artist. I can sing a ballad and get vulnerable or I can give you a cool rock song - I refuse to be one thing." TBH, we couldn't agree more with Dixie's motto for making it in the industry. And we'll be cheering her along every step of the way, especially as she joins Big Time Rush on their tour this summer!
